Basic information about the metro in Shenzhen

The Shenzhen Metro was first opened in 2004. At present, 8 stations are in operation, with a total route length of 286.2 km. It is spread over a total of 198 stations. The city carries 5.5 million people on average. The plan is to expand the existing lines, but also to open new ones. The whole project should be completed before 2022.

Ticket price

The fare varies depending on the mileage. For the first 4 km you will pay 2 yuan and for each additional 4 km you will pay 1 extra yuan. After 12 km you pay 1 extra yuan for every 6 km. After 24 km you pay 1 extra yuan for every 8 km.

You can buy 3 types of fare. The first is a one-way fare in the form of a plastic token. These can be easily purchased from a vending machine at any metro station.

The second option is the so-called “Shenzhen Tong Pass”, which pays off for long stays. The card can be recharged repeatedly at vending machines at some metro stations. When using it you will get 5% discount on fare.

The last option is a one-day fare, which you can use without restrictions for 24 hours. Its price is 20 yuan. Children under 120 cm can use the metro free of charge when accompanied by their parents. The same applies to retired or disabled passengers.

Time tables

All lines start operating after 6 am and end just after midnight. It operates at regular intervals from Monday to Sunday, but the frequency depends on the particular line, time and day of the week. But you rarely wait more than a few minutes on the subway.

Bus transportation

A bus service is also very easy to use in the city. However, bus transport is more time-consuming and you can stay on crowded suns. Use the same card for the ride as for the metro. You can also get timetable information right on the spot.

Taxi

There is also a taxi in the city. You can call him only on the street or in the places where the taxi is usually standing. For us Europeans, it is a relatively inexpensive way of transport, and taxis are on every corner. However, it is important to arrange the price in advance, otherwise, you are at risk that your local taxi drivers will get you more money than you would like.

However, we recommend that you use the UBER application, where you have the first free coupon for free!
