Places of interest
- Baku Boulevard is especially popular with lovers of walks, sunsets, and cafes with sea views.
- For a longer sightseeing tour, it is worth visiting the Old Town, which is the only sight of the Middle Ages. The picturesque narrow streets, in contrast to the high-rise buildings of the new city, will undoubtedly enchant you.
- On the other hand, the most beautiful monument of the new city is Flame Towers, three modern buildings in the shape of a flame that will enchant you both day and night.
Basic information about the metro in Baku
Baku Metro is one of the most important transport systems in Azerbaijan and is the first underground transport in the Islamic country. Currently, 25 stations are active, spread over 3 lines – red, green and recently opened purple. Their route is 36.63 km long. The metro was first opened in 1957 as the 5th metro system in the Soviet Union. Originally only 5 stations worked.
Ticket price
Since 2015, fares have been unified on all lines and old tickets have been replaced by modern „BakiKart“ cards. These can be conveniently purchased from a vending machine at all metro stations. They must also be conquered at the same locations, depending on how many rides you want to take. The advantage of this card is that it can be used in bus transport to any BakuBus. The card can be acquired in two ways. Either for 45 days, for less than 1 EUR or you can buy 1-4 rides for the price of 10 euro cents.

Time tables
Metro timetables are fixed but differ not only on individual lines but also on days. All three lines run from Monday to Sunday, at intervals of 6 to 24 hours. While early in the morning and in the afternoon, the metro runs regularly every 3 to 6 minutes, on weekends, or at a time that is not too busy, you will also wait for a good hour. You can find the exact schedule on the spot without any problems.
Bus transportation
Rather than the traditional bus service, you will find here the minibusses, the so-called „marshrutka“, which are typical of the countries of the former Soviet Union. The specificity of these buses is that they have no fixed stops, but they stop at a sign at the main roads or at a place that you arrange in advance.
Since 2014, the “BakuBus” also operates here, providing transportation throughout the city. You will use the same fare as the metro. Timetable information is easy to find on-site.
Taxi
There is also a taxi in the city. You can call him only on the street or in the places where the taxi is usually standing. For us Europeans, it is a relatively inexpensive way of transport, and taxis are on every corner. However, it is important to arrange the price in advance, otherwise, you are at risk that your local taxi drivers will get you more money than you would like.
However, we recommend that you use the UBER application, where you have the first free coupon for free!
